Marco Ricca was born in Imperia (Italy) on December 28th, 1982. He received his M.S. degree in Computer and Communication Networks and his Ph.D. in Electronics and Communication Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Giaccone, both from Politecnico di Torino in 2008 and 2012.

Since 2009, he has been a member of the Telecommunication Networks Group (TNG) in the Electronics and Telecommunications Department of the Politecnico di Torino. From 2009 to 2011 as PhD student (XXIV cycle), working on energy aware scheduling algorithms for input queued switches and since 2012 as PostDoc Fellow. In June 2010 he received in Brescia the GTTI Award "Premio Carassa 2010".

Between June 2008 to February 2009 he was with Pervasive Technologies Lab in Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB) where he worked on sensor networks based on real delay tolerant networks.

Between November 2010 and August 2011 he was a Visiting Scholar at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Laboratories, set in  Murray Hill - New Jersey, working on research aimed to minimizing the electrical power consumption of telecommunications equipments; under the supervision of Andrea Francini Ph.D, Steven Fortune Ph.D and Thierry Klein Ph.D.

Current areas of interest:
  • Energy aware scheduling algorithms for input queued switches
  • Intermittently connected networks
